im not grumpy enough to be called ratchet
i was up until 2 oclock this morning getting rid of a particularly nasty virus that i noticed 2 minutes before it screwed up my executable file association.
luckily i managed to nerd out enough to fix it and fixed up all of my registry keys.
this just so happened to be the same virus that screwed over death_hendry's laptop a few weeks ago. except i managed to kill it before it screwed up my computer too bad...
be on the lookout for it. it disguises itself as a security program and then tells you that you have a whole heap of viruses on your computer but wont get rid of them until you buy the program. DONT FALL FOR IT!! IT WANTS YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER!!
Save all your important files, download a mallware destroyer and run both it and your antivirus several times until it finds the trojan. if it changes your .exe file association restart your computer while holding f8 and restore your computer to a previous days settings.
also, open the command prompt window and type in "assoc.exe=exefile" to fix the exe file association.

Date: 2010-03-15 09:51 pm (UTC)Having avast on your computer picks it up before it infects it. It's pretty good. I didn't have it and I ended up with 293 malware worms and viruses, it was literally riddled with it. Glad you managed to fix yours.
