The little creature squealed, swiping and flaring its tiny wings at the sudden invader in its den. The large groping digits flinching backwards at a sudden burst of flame from the tiny butterfly winged dragon before surging back forwards and dragging it out of the nest.

 

“Hey~ I got one!” the large human male called over his shoulder, tying the snapping and snarling dragons snout shut with a length of twine.  He held out the tiny wings, observing the colours adorning the underside of the otherwise entirely green creature.

 

“Damn, you did too.” The hunter’s small female companion peeked out from the underbrush where she was currently searching. Pulling a well used device out with her and inspecting the interior “The sugar water traps didn’t work though. Maybe they’re starting to wise up.”

 

“Maybe” the male shrugged, dropping the little dragon into a cage and hanging it from his belt. “Or maybe this one was just stupid to make its nest so far from its friends Tika.”

 

“Oh shut up” Tika laughed, cooing at the tiny critter inside the cage and earning an unhappy growl. “Pity though, means we’re gonna have to catch some deer or something to sell this week. One ‘lucky butterfly’ isn’t going to get us much cash.”

 

“Nnnnn…” the hunter shrugged “why don’t you run along and find those herbs you love so much.”

 

He unhooked the cage, thrusting it into his companion’s arms and shooing her back towards town. Refilling the trap and hanging it inside a flowering bush so it could be checked later.

 

Tika giggled, hefting her messengers bag over her shoulder and practically singing “Fiiiine~ But you owe me a drink when you get baaack~”

 

“Drink?” the hunter snorted “you mean a pot of hot water so you can dump your little herbs in it I’m guessing. I have no idea why your clan likes that stuff so much”

 

“Possibly….” The little female pouted “you’re still buying it though.”
