Oh how i love retail

I had a woman come up to my register, scream at me for taking so long with the guy before her (she was in line for 5 mins, I saw her line up, there were 2 people in front of her) and said I need to ‘stop putting things on the bench then in the bags, it would be faster if you put them straight in the bags so you took too long serving the man in front of me’.

For starters, the man in front of her had an ENTIRE load of vegetables. All that stuff I was ‘putting on the counter’ I was WEIGHING ON THE SCALE. I can’t go any faster when I do this, because the scale TAKES TIME to register the weight of the fruit/vegetables.

After this, she DEMANDS that I get someone to bring her some cigarettes and ring them through at my register. I politely tell her that a) we are not allowed to do this anymore, as it is illegal, and b) that she will need to purchase her cigarette at the cigarette counter no more than 10 steps away.

Obviously this didn’t quite get through to her, because she once again DEMANDS (yes, demands, she didn’t ask for anything politely in this whole exchange) that since she has been forced to stand in line for 30 minutes (5 minutes, saw her line up) that I leave my register once she’s payed, head down to the cigarette counter, and ring her through straight away so she doesn’t have to wait for one of the express lane staff to move across and man the cigarette counter.

There were people behind her lined up, they all looked at her like she lost her head (more like brain, but whatever). Anyway, I had to explain to her that I wasn’t allowed to leave my register while there were people still in the line.

Silly!cow huffed and puffed and grumbled and DEMANDED to see my supervisor so I rang my little panic bell. Supervisor turns up (bless her heart) and also explains to her that I cant leave, cant ring through cigarettes at my counter, and that she would have to go to the cigarette counter. Cue more huffing and grumbling as I try to get Silly!cow to pay and she waddles off to get her cigarettes with my supervisor following after.

Supervisor later caught up to me and gave me a hug for dealing with such a cunt, because apparently she had CONTINUED to complain about being in line for 30 MINUTES OMG as she was buying her cigarettes. I hope she realizes that even at CHRISTMAS time our lines are NEVER that long.
